At SJAM, we are continuing to encourage ‘literacy’ as a foundational skill for your child’s future academic success:
- Ms. Campbell (Librarian) has organized displays for ‘Black History Month’ and ‘Blind Date with a Book’ to encourage your child to read. Please ask your child to share the titles of books they found in this display – hopefully they sign one or more out!
- Monthly draw for a gift card for students that finish books and enter the draw.
- ‘Golden Ticket’: Find a golden ticket in SJAM books and receive a prize
- 36 in 6: Looking for a cool, fun way to track your reading? Join 36 in 6 – a reading challenge that dares you to read 36 books in 6 months!
With our five-day weekend for students (Teachers Convention and Family Day) taking place this week, your family may want to participate in one of these events (CBE Staff are not present to supervise):
- Central Public Library: Events | Calgary Public Library
- FREE library cards: CPL - Home
- Events in Calgary: Experience Calgary Live | YYC What's On
- The Best Family Day Events in Calgary! | Family Fun Calgary
- Celebrate Family Day with a stop by the Beddington Winter Carnival. Enjoy hot chocolate, crafts, and a fire pit, head out for a skate, and stop by the Maker’s Market.
- Date: February 16, 2026 ; Time: 12 – 4 PM
- Venue: Beddington Community Association - 375 Bermuda Drive NW, Calgary, AB

School Council
School Council will be meeting on Tuesday, February 17 (6:30 – 8:00 PM) in the Learning Commons. Guests will review our School Development Plan and School Improvement Results Report. The second document highlights impressive improvements led by our student leaders and faculty!
SJAM is pleased to announce that Social Networking Safety expert Paul Davis will be hosting an informative presentation for parents focused on online safety and today’s digital world on Wednesday, February 18 at 6:00 PM in the Learning Commons. Thank you to the School Council for funding this informative speaker. We have invited parents from John Diefenbaker High School (JDHS) and St. Helena. Due to a volleyball game, parking may be limited – you can use the JDHS student parking lot.
Paul will address a wide range of topics relevant to children and youth, including:
- Cyberbullying
- Smartphone use
- Online privacy
- Online gaming
- Social media safety
- And more
This is a free event open to all parents. In addition to the evening parent session, Paul will also be speaking with students during the school day, so you do not need to bring your children to this as well.
